I analyzed 39 recent Reddit posts on passing AZ-104. Here is what actually worked.
Study time, scores, retakes and resources from 39 AZ-104 pass posts (Jul to Oct 2026), and the one habit that kept coming up.

Most AZ-104 advice online is one person's story. That's useful, but one story can't tell you what's typical. So I read every "I passed AZ-104" post I could find on r/AzureCertification and r/AZURE from July to October 2026, and wrote down the same things for each: attempt number, score, study time, Azure experience and resources.
That gave 39 posts. Older posts were left out on purpose: the exam changes every few months, and advice from 2024 can send you to the wrong topics.
Here's what the numbers say.
The short version
- 11 of 24 people who said which attempt it was passed on a retake. Failing once is normal.
- The median score was 779. 10 of 26 reported scores were under 750, and four were exactly 700.
- The median study time was 60 days, from 7 days to 6 months.
- 6 people had no Azure experience at all. Only 5 used Azure every day at work.
- The most used resources: Microsoft Learn (17), AI tools (15), hands-on labs (15), John Savill (12), Tutorials Dojo (12) and Shireen Khan's practice tests (11).
- The advice repeated most: review why every wrong answer is wrong, not just your score.
Failing first is common

Almost half of the people who said which attempt it was needed more than one. Seven passed on the second try, three on the third, and one on the fourth, going 557, 596, 661, then 700.
Several first fails were close: 674, 683, 687. Most of those people didn't change everything for the retake. They used the score report to find their weak areas, fixed those, and went again within a few weeks.
If you just failed, you're in good company. Look at the score report, not the total.
Scores sit close to the line
Of the 26 posts with a score, the median was 779, the highest 925 and the lowest 700. Ten were under 750.
Even people who prepared well describe the exam as harder than they expected. One person with a 858 called it "very broad and quite deep". Plan for a close result, and don't treat a pass as easy because a friend passed quickly.
